Kids Get Hands-On Learning with Fire and Earthquake Drills at School

Created : 1 November 2024

At school, safety drills are essential to help children understand how to respond in emergencies. Recently, students had a hands-on lesson in fire and earthquake safety, participating in drills that taught them to stay calm and make smart choices during unexpected situations.

The fire drill began with teachers explaining the sounds of the alarm and guiding students on the importance of moving quickly but safely to designated assembly points. Teachers demonstrated “Stop, Drop, and Roll” to extinguish flames on clothing, then encouraged kids to practice these steps. They learned that following their teacher’s instructions could help keep everyone safe and calm.

In the earthquake drill, students learned about “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.” When the alarm signaled, each child got under their desk, covering their heads and holding on to furniture to protect themselves from potential hazards. They were guided to cover their heads with their arms or use any available sturdy object, learning how these simple actions can help keep them safe. After each drill, students had time to ask questions, and teachers reinforced safety principles, explaining the importance of drills. These exercises are crucial for children’s confidence in emergency preparedness, ensuring they know how to react responsibly if an emergency occurs.
