Kipinä Kids Surabaya proudly hosted a parenting workshop titled “Confident Readers Start Here”, led by Miss Shareen Ratnani, Vice President of Kipinä Kids Indonesia. The workshop was designed to support parents in understanding the crucial role of early literacy in a child’s overall development. With a warm and engaging approach, Miss Shareen shared valuable insights on how reading confidence is built from an early age through meaningful interactions, consistent exposure to language, and a supportive home environment. Parents were encouraged to view reading not as an academic obligation, but as a joyful and empowering daily experience for their children.
During the session, Miss Shareen emphasized that confident readers are not born overnight; they are nurtured through intentional guidance, patience, and positive reinforcement. She explained the importance of phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, and comprehension skills, while also highlighting how parents can model a love for reading at home. Practical strategies were shared, including how to choose age-appropriate books, create engaging reading routines, and respond positively to children’s reading attempts without pressure. The workshop also addressed common concerns parents face, such as children losing interest or feeling insecure when learning to read.
The parenting workshop reflected Kipinä Kids’ ongoing commitment to partnering with parents in supporting holistic child development. By equipping parents with the right knowledge and tools, Kipinä Kids Surabaya aims to create a strong foundation where children grow into confident, capable, and enthusiastic readers. The event not only strengthened parents’ understanding of early literacy but also reinforced the shared belief that when parents and educators work hand in hand, children are empowered to reach their fullest potential—starting with confident reading skills that last a lifetime.
