Earthquake Drill : Practice Today, Feel Ready Tomorrow

Created on 1st October 2026 : Earthquake drills help children learn how to respond when the ground shakes. Teachers explained in age-appropriate language that earthquakes happen when tectonic plates move against or past one another, making the ground shake. They use simple examples, invite questions, and reassure children that knowing what to do can help them feel safe. Clear, child-friendly explanations help children understand this natural event without creating unnecessary worry.

Teachers calmly teach and practise four key safety steps: Stop, Drop, Cover, and Hold On. Children stop what they are doing, drop to their hands and knees, cover their head and neck under a sturdy table or desk when possible, and hold on until the shaking stops or the drill ends. Practising this routine in a calm, supportive way helps children remember each step. Over time, regular practice builds confidence, helps children know how to respond, and keeps them prepared both at school and beyond.
